Overview
Image to Base64 and Base64 to image converter. Encode any image to a data URI or decode it back, copy or download, offline.
Image to Base64 & Base64 to Image is a fast, fully offline Chrome extension that works in both directions. Turn an image into a Base64 or data URI string, or paste a string and decode it back into a real image you can preview and download. Everything runs on your device – the extension uses minimal permissions and makes no network requests, so your files never leave the browser. How to use Encode – choose the Image to Base64 direction, drag and drop or pick a file, then copy or download the result. Decode – switch to the Base64 to Image direction, paste a data URI or raw string, preview the image, then download it or copy the data URI. Key features - Two-way conversion in a single tool. - 100% local processing, so nothing is uploaded to a server. - Clean, single-line output that pastes safely into code, tools and forms. - SVG support on both sides, plus automatic format detection when decoding. - Local history with thumbnails to reopen any previous result in one click. Output presets Switch the result format at any time: Data URI for embedding, Markdown for docs and wikis, HTML img for templates, CSS url() for stylesheet backgrounds, JSON string for apps and APIs, plain text for a minimal string, and a URL-safe variant for platforms that require it. FAQ Q: Can it turn a string back into an image? A: Yes. Paste a data URI or string and the extension rebuilds the picture as a file you can preview and download. It also reads BMP and ICO inputs. Q: Does it work without internet? A: Yes, all processing happens on your device and your files never leave the browser. Q: How does it know the image format when decoding? A: It detects the format automatically from the data URI or the file bytes, with a manual override when you need it. Q: Does it support SVG and data URIs? A: Yes. SVG works both ways, and the data URI prefix is detected automatically. Q: Will the output contain line breaks? A: No, it produces a single-line string that is safe to paste into code, tools and forms. Tips - Prefer Data URI for quick tests, then switch to plain text when you only need the string. - When decoding, paste the whole data URI so the format is detected for you. Install Image to Base64 & Base64 to Image to convert images both ways, right in your browser.
