Photos saved as HEIC by an iPhone often just won't open: not in Windows, not in an upload form, not in a lot of everyday software. This Chrome extension converts HEIC, WebP, AVIF and other image formats privately, without uploading anything, entirely on your device. No account, no server, and once installed the extension works fully offline. Most browser-based converters don't work this way. They send your file to a server to process it, even for formats a browser can already handle locally. That matters if the photo is a passport or a signed document, and even for a vacation photo, it's one less copy of your files sitting somewhere else. Two ways to use it. From the toolbar, drag files in, pick a format, batch-convert, and download as a ZIP. Or right-click any image on a page and choose "Convert image as…" from the menu, no need to open the extension first. A couple of things it intentionally doesn't do. It won't encode animated GIFs, since that needs real palette quantization and faking it would just produce bad output. It won't turn a photo into an SVG either, since vectorizing an image is a different problem from converting one. No ads, no analytics, nothing collected. The right-click menu asks for permission on all sites because converting the exact image you clicked means re-fetching its bytes fresh, rather than reusing a copy already drawn on the page. That's the only thing that permission is used for; full detail is in the privacy policy.
