Clip Corner
Overview
Paste a YouTube link, pick a spot on any webpage, and hover there to watch. Adjust how see-through the video is in the popup.
Clip Corner – watch YouTube right inside any website Turn almost any region of a webpage into a small YouTube player. Paste a link once, choose where it should live on the page, and keep browsing while the video sits in the corner—or over a card, a sidebar, or any block you pick. Perfect for tutorials, reference videos, stream reruns, or background viewing without juggling extra tabs. WHAT IT DOES • Saves your YouTube URL and overlay options in the extension popup. • Adds a right‑click menu item on normal http/https pages: “Choose where the video appears.” • Lets you click the exact spot on the page where the embed should attach (with a clear selection highlight). • Embeds the official YouTube player (iframe) in that region, sized to the element you chose. • Lets you dial in how see‑through the video is, so you can still read the page underneath. • Optional “only show on hover” mode: the page looks normal until you move the mouse over the chosen area. HOW TO USE (QUICK) 1) Click the extension icon and paste your YouTube link. 2) Adjust “How see‑through is the video?” if you want more or less transparency. 3) Toggle “Only show video on hover” on or off, depending on whether you want the player always visible in that spot. 4) Click Save. 5) On the page where you want the overlay, right‑click and choose “Choose where the video appears.” 6) Move the cursor to highlight the block you want; left‑click to confirm. Press Esc to cancel. The extension tries to snap to sensible containers (sections, divs, articles, etc.) so tiny icons or one‑line text don’t become the anchor by accident. SUPPORTED LINKS Works with common YouTube URL formats, including: • youtube.com/watch?v=… • youtu.be/… • Shorts, Live, and standard embed links where a valid 11‑character video id is present. If the link doesn’t resolve, double‑check that it’s a normal watch/share URL from YouTube. BEHAVIOR NOTES • The embed is configured to autoplay muted by default (browser policies often require muted autoplay on arbitrary sites). • Your settings sync across pages via local extension storage only—nothing is sent to a separate server by this extension for that purpose. • Each overlay replaces pointer interaction on the original content in that region (so you don’t accidentally click through to links under the player). The original markup stays in the page; it’s wrapped for overlay placement. TROUBLESHOOTING “Video won’t play” or a blank box: • Ad blockers and strict privacy filters frequently block YouTube embeds. Try pausing the blocker on the current site or allowing YouTube embed domains. • Some corporate or school networks block YouTube entirely. • Certain restricted Chrome pages (chrome://, the Web Store, PDF viewer, etc.) cannot run this placement flow—use a normal http/https tab. Menu item missing: • Reload the page after installing the extension. • Ensure you’re on http or https (not a restricted internal Chrome page). PERMISSIONS (WHY THEY EXIST) • activeTab & scripting: to run the placement UI on the tab you’re using when you pick a spot. • contextMenus: to expose “Choose where the video appears” in the right‑click menu. • storage: to remember your YouTube URL, opacity, and hover preference between sessions. PRIVACY This extension is built to operate locally in your browser. It does not include analytics or accounts. It reads and writes only the small set of settings you configure in the popup, and injects the YouTube iframe using the URL you provide. Video playback is handled by YouTube’s own embed and is subject to YouTube’s terms and privacy policy. WHO IT’S FOR • Learners who want a lesson video pinned next to docs or exercises. • Anyone who wants a picture‑in‑page style player without losing context. • People who prefer one monitor but still want reference video nearby. YouTube Overlay keeps the workflow simple: save once, place anywhere on the page, tune transparency, and choose hover or always‑on display. Install it and turn any corner of the web into your personal watch surface.
