Capture Fix

Fix black screens when recording or screen sharing Chrome. Checks graphics acceleration and walks you through switching it.

Chrome can render its windows using your GPU. That's normally a good thing, but some window-capture tools (OBS Window Capture, Discord screen share, Teams, lecture recorders) can't read GPU-rendered windows — so the window you're capturing shows up solid black. Capture Fix checks whether Chrome is currently using GPU acceleration, shows you the graphics card it's using, and takes you straight to the exact Chrome setting that controls it — "Use graphics acceleration when available." It never flips that switch for you. You turn the setting off, click Relaunch, and Capture Fix remembers you're in recording mode so it can remind you to turn it back on afterward. What it does: - Checks whether Chrome is currently GPU-accelerated, and shows the GPU name. - Opens Chrome's settings page with the exact toggle you need, pre-searched. - Runs a "recording mode" workflow: guides you through turning acceleration off before you record, then back on when you're done, with optional reminders while it's off. It never changes a Chrome setting itself. No native helper, no background changes — you flip the toggle, Capture Fix detects it and guides you there. The tradeoff: with graphics acceleration off, Chrome can feel slightly slower — less smooth scrolling and video, higher CPU use. Capture Fix is built around that tradeoff: use it only while recording, then switch back. Privacy: Capture Fix makes no network requests of any kind. Nothing is collected, nothing leaves your browser. All of its state (your preferences and the last check it ran) is stored locally with chrome.storage.local and never transmitted anywhere.
