PaneTrans is a privacy-first translation extension that runs entirely on your device. No cloud, no tracking, no data ever leaves your browser. WHAT IT DOES • YouTube bilingual subtitles — show English plus your target language at the same time, in real time. • Drag-select region translation — pick any rectangle on any web page and get continuous translation as the content updates (live captions, in-frame video text, untranslated forum posts, screenshots). • Built-in OCR — Tesseract extracts text from images and video frames before translating. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT All translation runs locally using small, fast open-source AI models (OPUS-MT, NLLB-200, M2M-100). Models are downloaded once on first use and cached in your browser. There is no server in the loop — there are no servers at all. PRO MODELS (optional, not required) A one-time $14.99 lifetime upgrade unlocks higher-quality models — gpt-oss and Gemma 3 — also running 100% on-device. The free tier covers the vast majority of everyday translation needs. PRIVACY We collect zero data and operate no servers that see your content. The optional Pro license is sold via an external payment processor and validated by a stateless Cloudflare Worker that never sees what you translate.
