Overview
Automatically discards inactive tabs to save memory. Never touches your active tab, pinned tabs, audio tabs, or your whitelist.
Tabbatical frees up memory by discarding tabs you're not using — without closing them. Browsers get slow when you have dozens of tabs open, even ones you forgot about. Tabbatical watches for tabs that have been idle past a time you choose, then discards them using the browser's own native tab-discard mechanism — the same one your browser itself uses for memory management. A discarded tab is NOT closed: it stays right where it is in your tab bar, and clicking it reloads the page and restores it, just as you left it. What Tabbatical never touches: - The tab you're currently looking at, in any window - Pinned tabs - Tabs playing audio (music, video calls, etc.) - Any domain you've added to your whitelist Whitelist, your way. Add mail.google.com or any site you don't want touched — subdomains are covered automatically. One click from the toolbar popup adds the site you're on. Simple by design. Two settings: idle time before discard (default 15 minutes), and your whitelist. Manual control when you want it. Toolbar popup shows open/discarded counts and a "Discard inactive tabs now" button. Privacy: Tabbatical touches nothing but your own browser's local storage. No accounts, no servers, no analytics, no tracking, no data ever leaves your device. Inspired by the well-known Auto Tab Discard extension, rebuilt from scratch.
