Retrofy Page
Overview
Turn ordinary webpages into a tasteful 1990s-style version on demand.
**Retrofy Page – Browse the web like it’s the late 90s** Retrofy Page transforms any modern website into a nostalgic 1990s-style experience with a single click. Instead of just applying a visual filter, Retrofy Page reshapes the page into something that feels like early HTML-era browsing: simple layouts, classic typography, and the unmistakable look of the pre-CSS web. --- **What it does** Click the extension icon and choose a mode. The current page is instantly transformed into a retro version of itself. Retrofy Page works directly on the page you are visiting. It does not redirect, does not scrape external services, and does not send your data anywhere. --- **Modes** **Soft 90s** A clean and readable retro style inspired by late-90s websites. * Classic fonts (Times New Roman, Arial) * Blue underlined links * Flat layout with minimal modern styling removed **GeoCities Chaos** A more playful and exaggerated version of the 90s web. * Tiled backgrounds * Decorative elements * Over-the-top retro styling (still usable) **Pure HTML** Strips the page down to its essential content and rebuilds it in a minimal, old-school HTML format. * Focus on readability * No modern layout complexity * Ideal for distraction-free reading --- **Additional features** **Retro Browser (experimental)** Navigate within a retro-styled frame inspired by early browsers. Pages are re-applied in retro mode as you move between links. **Windows 95 Desktop (experimental)** Launch a playful desktop-like environment around the current page. **Export as .htm** Generate a static HTML version of the retrofied page. **Real 90s** Open a random archived website from the late 90s via the Internet Archive. --- **Privacy first** Retrofy Page is designed to be simple and transparent. * No analytics * No tracking * No external servers * No data collection * No browsing history storage The extension only runs when you explicitly click it and only affects the active tab. Permissions are used strictly for: * injecting styles and scripts into the current page after user action * temporarily managing the retro navigation state within the tab --- **Why Retrofy Page** Modern websites are powerful but often heavy, cluttered and complex. Retrofy Page offers a different perspective: * simpler layouts * reduced visual noise * a nostalgic browsing experience * a lightweight way to re-visit the web It can be fun, but also surprisingly useful for focusing on content. --- **Notes** * Some complex web apps (social networks, dynamic dashboards, heavily scripted pages) may not fully convert. * Audio effects (like dial-up sounds) may be blocked by the browser depending on autoplay policies. * Experimental modes may evolve over time. --- **Support the project** If you enjoy Retrofy Page, you can support development through the link in the extension popup.
