Overview
Any paper's citation graph, signed and machine-inferred kept apart, plus a reference checker for Overleaf and AI chat answers. Free.
CiteStamp shows a paper's citation record right on your toolbar. Open a paper on a major publisher or preprint site, and the icon shows how many recorded citation claims it has. Click it to see them, split three ways and never blended: • Signed claims, where a named researcher stands behind the link • Replication outcomes coded by the FORRT Replication Database • Machine-inferred citations from open scholarly metadata, labelled as such One more click opens the paper's interactive graph on citestamp.com. If it's your paper, claim it with your ORCID iD. Check the references in an AI chat answer: On a supported AI chat page, click the CiteStamp icon, then "Check references on this page". The extension picks out the lines that are references (a DOI, an arXiv id, or an author-year-title citation) and marks each one: • Found: it resolves to a real work • Confirm: something matched, but not cleanly, such as a DOI registered to a different title than the one cited • Not found: a DOI no registration agency holds, with where it looked and when • Couldn't check: no DOI and no confident title match, or a source didn't answer It checks against Crossref, DataCite and doi.org, from your browser. After your first check, new answers in that tab are checked as they finish. Nothing runs on a chat page until you click. Check your references in Overleaf: Open an Overleaf project, click "Check bibliography" and paste your .bib. Each reference comes back marked as one of these: • Resolves to a known work • Weak match to confirm by hand, such as a DOI that points to a different paper than the title you cited • Marked retracted by the publisher • No match in the sources it searched • Couldn't check, because a source didn't answer Before a DOI is reported as not found, doi.org is asked whether any registration agency holds it. Not writing in Overleaf? Paste any reference list at citestamp.com/check, including one an AI assistant gave you. It's the same check. Watchlist: Watch a paper with one click. Once a day the extension re-checks your list. When the publisher marks a watched paper retracted, withdrawn or removed, or files an expression of concern, a count appears on the toolbar icon. Privacy: The check runs in your browser and your draft is never uploaded. Each reference is looked up on its own, straight from your browser, with Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex and doi.org (on AI chat pages, Crossref, DataCite and doi.org only). CiteStamp's server gets the DOI of the paper you're viewing and of each reference that resolves, to look up its public record, and your Pro key if you add one. It never gets your draft, your conversation or the text you paste. No tracking, no analytics. Details: citestamp.com/privacy Free, with an optional Pro: Everything above is free, with no account. Sign in with ORCID only to claim your own work. Pro ($35/yr) automates it: the check runs as you write in Overleaf, typing @cite opens a literature picker, and every reference you cite by DOI joins your watchlist. The graph is public and free to reuse.
