WatchTogether
Overview
Watch any video in sync with a friend: shared play, pause, seek and live chat — no screen sharing.
Watch any video in sync with a friend, wherever you both are. WatchTogether keeps play, pause, seeking and playback speed in sync between your two browsers and adds a live chat that floats right over the video, even in fullscreen. Each of you plays the video on your own screen at full quality. Nothing is screen-shared or re-streamed, so there's no lag and no blurry picture. HOW IT WORKS 1. Click the WatchTogether icon, enter your name and start a watch party. 2. Send your friend the room code, or a one-click invite link. 3. You both open the same video and click "Sync this tab". From then on, when either of you plays, pauses or skips, the other follows. FEATURES • Synced playback: play, pause, seek and speed, with notices like "Sara paused at 12:34" • Follows you to the next video: open another video or the next episode and your friend's tab follows • Live chat on the video: a compact panel, or a see-through chat in fullscreen that lets clicks pass through to the player • Emoji reactions that float up the screen for both of you • Face cam and voice (optional): round camera bubbles over the video; the movie turns down automatically while your friend talks • Smart buffering: if one person is buffering, the other waits, then you continue together • 3-2-1 countdown: both of you start playing at exactly the same moment • Draw on screen: sketch or point at something and your friend sees it in the same spot • Up Next queue: line up videos and they play one after another for both of you • Host controls: choose whether friends can control playback or switch videos • Watch recap: time watched together, messages, favourite reactions and your biggest moments • Light and dark mode, adjustable sounds and a side panel on video pages WORKS ON Most sites with a video player, including YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and many others. Each person needs their own access to the video (for example, both need their own streaming subscription). PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account and no sign-up. • Your two browsers connect directly, peer-to-peer (WebRTC). Chat messages and playback actions go straight to your friend and aren't stored on any server. • To find each other, your browsers exchange a short encrypted handshake through the public relay ntfy.sh. The relay can't read it. • Only share your room code with people you want to join. WHY IT NEEDS ACCESS TO WEBSITES WatchTogether needs to find and control the video player on the page you choose to sync, and to show the chat overlay on top of it. It doesn't read or collect your browsing history. WatchTogether is an independent project and isn't affiliated with any of the streaming services mentioned.
