beforeyoutour puts the public record for a New York City building next to the listing, before you tour. Open a rental or sale on StreetEasy, Zillow, Apartments.com, Realtor, or Trulia. The side panel looks up that address in NYC Open Data and shows what the listing usually leaves out: open HPD violations, 311 complaints, rodent inspections, bedbug filings, ownership, and whether the building looks rent-stabilized by age. What you see • Things to look into — mold, leaks, heat, pests, and other open records, tagged to the unit when the City named one • Cash to sign and income-to-skip-a-guarantor on rentals • Building facts — year built, legal units, open violations, 311 volume • Owner / management contacts from HPD filings • Reviews — notes you leave for the next renter, plus public Reddit threads that actually name the address Built for NYC Records come from NYC Planning GeoSearch and NYC Open Data (HPD, 311, DOB, and related datasets). The extension does not invent violations. City data can be delayed or incomplete, so treat every flag as something to verify on the tour and with HPD Online, not as a verdict.
