Hushtag: Hide personal details from ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude & Gemini

Masks names, phone numbers and IDs in text and files (PDF, Word, Excel) on your device before an AI chat sees them.

Redact PDFs, Word documents and spreadsheets before you upload them to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Drop in a file the way you normally would: Hushtag reads it on your device, swaps names, phone numbers, emails, addresses and ID numbers for tags like #PERSON_1, and attaches the masked copy instead. It works on what you paste too, in those three and Microsoft Copilot. The AI answers using the tags. Click "Show real details" under the answer and Hushtag shows it with your real details back in, and the AI never sees them. Use it to summarize a contract or a client letter, ask about a lab report, check a resume, or clean up a spreadsheet that has other people's details in it. DROP IN A FILE, IT'S MASKED FIRST • Works with PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV and text files, whether you drag them in, paste them or use the attach button. • Word and Excel files keep their layout: same tables, fonts and formulas, with tags where the private details were. • Headers, footers and tables are checked too, not just the main text. • Scanned PDFs (pictures of text) can't be read, so Hushtag stops and asks before anything is attached. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Details are found and masked on your device, inside the extension. • Your text, your files and the real details never reach Hushtag's servers. We don't run a server that receives them. • The key that restores your details stays in your browser. Restored answers are shown inside Hushtag, so the AI site can't read them. • No account and no analytics. The only network request Hushtag makes is the license check for paid plans (your license key goes to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider). Free users make none. • The AI service still receives the masked text you choose to send, so glance at it before you press send. WHAT IT CATCHES Names (most of them; add any it misses to your "Always mask" list), birth dates, email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses and postal or ZIP codes, passport, driver's license and national ID numbers, profile links, IP addresses, and passwords or login codes that follow a label. With the health, legal and HR detection that's on by default, it also catches health card and health plan numbers, some case and file numbers, and employee IDs. No tool catches everything, so always check what was masked. HOW IT WORKS 1. Paste or attach as usual. Hushtag masks the text before it lands in the chat box. 2.
