Read selected text aloud with your ElevenLabs voices. Simple voice search, playback controls and your own API key.

Listen to selected text on the web with voices from your ElevenLabs account. Select a passage and click the small play icon beside it. Click the same icon to stop. You can also start reading from the right-click menu or use a keyboard shortcut. Open the extension to search your voices by name, language or accent, listen to voice samples, choose a model and adjust playback speed. Available models are loaded from ElevenLabs. Your saved voice and model choices are remembered. GETTING STARTED You need your own ElevenLabs account and secret API key. In ElevenLabs, open Developers, then API Keys. Create a restricted key with these permissions: • Text to Speech: Access • Voices: Read • Models: Read Paste the full secret key into Human Reader. A Key ID or key name will not work. User access and write permissions are not required. Human Reader is free. Generating speech uses your ElevenLabs account credits. Voice previews play existing samples without generating new speech. PRIVACY Your API key is stored locally in the extension, not in Chrome Sync. Selected text is sent directly to ElevenLabs only when you start reading. There is no developer server or analytics. ElevenLabs processes submitted text under its own terms and privacy policy. Human Reader is an independent extension. After updating, reload open webpages before using the selection icon. Browser internal pages and some embedded editors are not supported.
