Human Mode
Overview
An experimental Chrome extension for teaching how research agents work behind the scenes.
Learn how research AI agents work by doing their job. Human Mode is a free, open-source research exercise from the Synthetic Humanities Lab at The University of Texas at Arlington. Start with an assigned question and work order. Collect webpages, rank sources, take notes, and write an answer using your retained evidence. A simulated budget and context window make the limits of the workflow visible. Features: • Built-in research requests and a custom task bank • Source ranking and a simplified reading view • Notes, draft revisions, and a guided tutorial • Downloads of your answer and session record During an active session, browser navigation follows the research workflow. Press Pause to browse normally, then Resume to return. PDF sources are not supported. The budget is simulated. No real money is charged. Human Mode does not generate AI answers or send your notes to an AI service. Session data and settings are stored locally in your browser.
