Homeroom adds a fast side panel to Google Classroom so teachers with a long class list can find the right class in a second, instead of scrolling a wall of identical cards. Press Alt+Shift+K (MacCtrl+Shift+K on a Mac) from anywhere in Chrome, start typing, press Enter. That's the whole loop. WHAT IT DOES • Instant search across class title, teacher, grade, class name, academic year, section, and your own aliases. • Virtual folders, favorites, aliases and hidden classes — your own organization layer on top of Classroom, without changing anything inside Classroom. • Colour-coded grade bands, so a long list can be scanned rather than read. • Filters by teacher, grade, class name and academic year. • Open Stream, Classwork, People, Marks, Drive or a student's record card directly from the panel. • Sort by recency, name or grade, with the class you already have open marked in the list. • An inline filter bar on the Classroom home grid — on by default, switchable from settings. • A compact roster view while you're on the People page. • Follows your system light or dark theme. GRADE AND YEAR FILTERS Homeroom reads the grade and academic year out of your class names and sections. Formats like "G4c + 2026-2027", "Grade 4 + 2026-2027", "4th Grade 2026-2027" and "K2 + 2026-2027" all work. If your school names classes another way, those two filters simply hide themselves and everything else still works. An in-panel help popover shows which formats are recognized. KEYBOARD / or Cmd/Ctrl+K — focus the search box Down / Up — move through the class list Enter — open the focused class, or the first result while searching Esc — clear the search, or close the roster Alt+Shift+K (MacCtrl+Shift+K) — open the panel from anywhere in Chrome PRIVACY Homeroom is read-only. It never archives, deletes, unenrolls, invites, posts, or changes anything in your Classroom account. There is no sign-in and no server. Folders, favorites, aliases, recents and hidden classes are stored locally in your browser, kept separate per signed-in Google account. Roster information is held only while the People page is open, in session storage, and is discarded when the session ends. Nothing is transmitted anywhere, and there is no analytics or tracking of any kind. Homeroom runs only on classroom.google.com. No other site is requested.
