Overview

Hokus turns English websites into graded Chinese reading practice using HSK 1–6 vocabulary.

Hokus is a Free and Open source Chrome extension designed to help users learn Chinese seamlessly during their everyday browsing. It systematically replaces selected English words on web pages with their corresponding HSK (Levels 1–6) Chinese vocabulary, enabling passive language acquisition in real-world contexts. Users can customize which HSK levels are applied, allowing the experience to be tailored to their proficiency. For ease of learning, hovering over replaced words reveals the original English term, along with the Chinese characters and pinyin. The extension is lightweight, easy to use, and can be toggled on or off instantly with a simple page refresh. Hokus is completely free and contains no ads, ensuring a clean and distraction-free learning experience.
