Overview

See the vendor and device type beside every MAC address on your router and network admin pages. Only the prefix is looked up.

See what every MAC address on your router and network admin pages really is. This MAC address lookup extension puts the vendor and device type beside each address, right where you're already working. Most router pages list devices as "Unknown" next to a string like 00:B4:63:E2:08:5A. Copying each one into a lookup site gets old fast. With macadress, that address simply shows "Ring · Camera" beside it. It works on the pages you already use, including router pages on local addresses like 192.168.1.1 and logged-in network consoles that no website can see. WHAT YOU CAN DO Identify devices at a glance A small label appears beside each MAC address with the manufacturer and, with a free API key, the likely device type: camera, printer, phone, router, storage, smart TV, game console, IoT and more. It's a quick way to work out who's on your Wi-Fi network and what that unknown device is. Name your own devices Label a MAC address once, such as "Reception printer" or "Front door camera", and that name appears wherever the address shows up, across every page and format. Export and import your labels as a file. Spot new devices On sites you keep switched on, addresses you haven't seen before get a NEW badge, so an unfamiliar device stands out next time you open the page. Look up any MAC address with a right-click Select a MAC address on any page, right-click, and choose "Look up MAC address". It works in tickets, logs, emails and forum posts without turning the site on. You can also select bare hex like F4F5D8112233, or a vendor prefix (OUI) like F4:F5:D8 or 8C:1F:64:C9:C. Copy in the format you need Click a label to copy the address as colon, dash, Cisco dot or bare hex, handy when you move between switches, firewalls and spreadsheets. Understand unusual addresses It recognises randomized and private Wi-Fi addresses, VRRP and HSRP virtual routers, multicast, LLDP, Spanning Tree and broadcast addresses, so you don't go looking for a device that doesn't exist. Dark and light themes Follows your system by default, or choose in Settings. PRIVACY Your full MAC addresses never leave your browser. A lookup sends only the prefix that identifies the vendor: the first 6 hex digits, or the first 9 for the blocks IEEE subdivides. The last 3 hex digits are never sent, and neither is the address of the page you're on. The extension only reads pages you switch on, or the text you select for a right-click lookup. Your labels and the list of devices seen stay in your browser on that device. There are no ads, analytics or third-party scripts. Privacy policy: https://macadress.com/privacy#browser-extension FREE TO USE, MORE WITH A KEY Without an API key: vendor names, randomized address detection, special address explanations, labels, new device flags, copy formats and right-click lookup. With a free API key: device type, country, virtualization (such as VMware, Hyper-V and Docker), and registry details including the assigned block. Get a free key at https://macadress.com/signup and paste it into Settings. HOW TO USE IT 1. Open your router or network admin page. 2. Click the macadress icon in the toolbar. 3. Choose "Show labels on this page", or turn on "Always on for this site". WHO IT'S FOR Network engineers, sysadmins, MSPs and helpdesk teams who read MAC addresses all day, security analysts checking an address in a ticket or log, and anyone at home wondering what's connected to their router. GOOD TO KNOW The extension reads MAC addresses shown as text on a page. It skips addresses inside form fields, though right-click lookup still works there, and it can't read pages drawn on a canvas. A browser extension can't scan your network, so it only knows what's on the page. To discover every device on your network, try the free macadress scanner app: https://macadress.com/scanner Device type is a best guess based on what a vendor usually makes, not a claim about one specific device. Phones and laptops using private Wi-Fi addresses can change address, so one may reappear as a new device. ABOUT MACADRESS macadress is a MAC address lookup service and OUI vendor database built from IEEE's public registries (MA-L, MA-M, MA-S, IAB and CID) and kept in sync with them. It's also available as an API for developers. Website: https://macadress.com API documentation: https://macadress.com/docs macadress is an independent service and isn't affiliated with IEEE or with any device or router maker. Vendor names and trademarks belong to their owners.
