HLSMate is a browser extension for saving video that a page is already playing. WHAT IT DOES • Detects HLS/M3U8 playlists, including master playlists with several quality variants. • Downloads the segments and merges them into a single MP4 file in your browser. • Merges a separately delivered audio track into the video, and prefers the highest available bitrate. • Saves MP4, WebM and FLV files directly, without re-encoding. • Lists only the resources of the active tab, with a captured thumbnail for each one. • Interface and downloader page are localized into 16 languages, including right-to-left Arabic. HOW IT WORKS Pick a resource in the popup. HLS streams open a dedicated downloader page where the playlist is parsed, segments are fetched in parallel, and the result is written as MP4. Loading and merging happen in your browser; nothing is uploaded to us. PERMISSIONS AND WHY • webRequest — observe media requests so the resource can be identified. Read-only: nothing is blocked, modified or redirected. • tabs — read the active tab's address so the popup can show the resources of that page only. • storage — keep the per-tab resource list and your minimum-size filter locally on your device. • hlsmate.com — the extension and the downloader page exchange the download task over this origin only. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • No DRM bypass, no encrypted-playlist decryption. • No support for sites with proprietary delivery such as YouTube. • No account, no ads, no analytics SDK, no collection of browsing history.
