TextShield finds political and commercial spam texts in Google Messages for web and blocks the senders in one click. WHAT IT DOES Click "Scan for Spam" on messages.google.com. TextShield reads your conversation list and scores every thread from an unknown or unsaved number against a local pattern list. Threads that score high enough get a red SPAM chip in the conversation list and appear in a results panel. BLOCK, DON'T JUST HIDE The Block button uses Google Messages' own "Block & report spam" action, then archives the thread. The sender is blocked at the Messages level — they can't reach your inbox again. Block All handles the whole list, with one confirmation first. Blocking is permanent until you undo it yourself in Google Messages → Settings → Spam & blocked. TextShield keeps no block list of its own and cannot un-block anyone. WHEN IT'S WRONG Click the ✕ on any flagged conversation to mark it Not Spam. That sender goes on a local allow list and is skipped by every future scan. Manage the list in Settings, along with trusted keywords and organization names you always want flagged. Saved contacts are never flagged. Only unknown numbers and short codes are scored. PRIVACY All detection runs on your device. TextShield makes no network requests of any kind — no analytics, no remote code, no server. Your messages are never transmitted, stored, or read by anyone but you. The only data that leaves your device is Google's own spam report, sent by Google Messages when you confirm a block. The extension runs on messages.google.com and nowhere else. WHAT CHANGED IN 4.0.0 Earlier versions only archived flagged conversations — senders were never actually blocked and could text again. The primary action is now Block & report spam, followed by archiving. Buttons and history now say "Block" so the extension can't understate what it does.
