See the HEC journal category (W, X, Y) under HEC policy 2024 in Google Scholar, and search any journal by name or ISSN.

HJRS Journal Checker shows the HEC Pakistan journal category right inside Google Scholar, so you don't have to look up each journal one by one. Version 0.3 follows the HEC Journals & Publication Policy 2024, which applies from 1 October 2024: - Web of Science SCIE, SSCI or AHCI journal: W - Web of Science ESCI journal: X - Pakistani journal in Scopus: Y (X if HEC accepts it for X) - Pakistani journal on HEC's national list (MEDLINE, CNKI or recommended by HEC): Y - Foreign journal that is only in Scopus: not HEC recognised any more If a journal meets more than one rule, the higher category counts. Each Scholar result gets a small badge next to the journal name: HEC W, HEC X, HEC Y or "Not HEC recognised". Hover over it to see why (for example "WoS SSCI" or "HEC national journals list 2026-27") and the dates the category is valid for. When Scholar cuts a journal name short, the badge shows "HEC ?" instead of guessing. Click the extension icon to search any journal by name or ISSN. Pro users ($2 a month) can also press "Check the journal on this page" on a journal's website, and see the ISSN, publisher, subjects and the category the journal had in earlier periods, including the old HJRS 2023-24 category. That helps when you check a paper published before October 2024. Data: the Web of Science journal lists from Clarivate's Master Journal List (23,004 journals, checked 27 October 2026), HEC's lists of Pakistani journals in Web of Science and Scopus (October 2024, extended to 31 March 2026), HEC's national journal lists for 2024-25 and for 1 April 2026 to 31 December 2027, and HEC's list of journals whose results are withheld. Everything is packed inside the extension, so nothing you search leaves your computer. Lists change during the year, so always confirm on hjrs.hec.gov.pk before you submit a paper.
