Overview

Local, telemetry-free bridge that lets AI agents drive your real browser via the Chrome DevTools Protocol.

Open WebBridge lets an AI agent operate your real Chrome — opening pages, reading them, clicking, typing, filling and submitting forms, downloading files, and capturing screenshots and PDFs — all inside your own browser profile, using the logins and sessions you already have. No re-login, no API keys. ⚠️ REQUIRES THE FREE COMPANION APP This extension works together with a small open-source program ("the daemon") that runs on your own computer. The extension connects only to that program on your machine (127.0.0.1). Install and start it first: https://github.com/zhizuzhefu/open-webbridge WHAT YOU CAN DO • Operate sites you're already signed into — internal dashboards, SaaS tools, admin panels, web mail — without re-authenticating. • Read pages reliably: the agent receives a clean, labelled outline of each page and targets elements by meaning, so automations keep working even when a site's design changes. • Interact like a person: click, type into inputs and rich-text editors, choose dropdowns, hover, scroll, press keys, drag, tap, and upload files. • Run JavaScript in the page, capture full-page or element screenshots, and export pages to PDF. • Inspect network traffic; emulate device size, user agent, and geolocation; manage downloads; handle native dialogs automatically. • Work inside embedded frames, and run several tasks in parallel in isolated tab groups. WHY OPEN WEBBRIDGE • It's really you. Actions run in your own browser profile with your real sessions — not a fresh, logged-out automation browser. • Private by design. 100% local. No analytics, no telemetry, no outbound calls by the developer. Your browsing and data never leave your computer. • Secure. Only callers holding your machine's secret token can drive the browser. • Built for AI. The agent gets a structured, labelled view of each page and addresses elements by meaning; screenshots are saved as files instead of bloating the agent's context. • Fully open source (AGPL-3.0). Audit or build it yourself. HOW IT WORKS You (or your AI assistant) send simple commands to the local companion app, which relays them to this extension. The extension performs them in your active tab. Everything runs on your machine; the extension never connects to any server other than the local companion app. SETUP (one time) 1. Install and start the companion app — see https://github.com/zhizuzhefu/open-webbridge 2. Click this extension's icon, paste the connection link the app prints, and press Connect. 3. You're ready — your AI tools can now drive the browser. PRIVACY & PERMISSIONS Open WebBridge collects no personal data and contains no analytics or tracking. It requests broad browser permissions (including the developer "debugger" permission and access to all sites) because browser automation may act on any page you navigate to — these are used solely to perform the actions you request, locally.
