Hintwise

Read foreign-language pages with ease: short meanings in your language appear next to the hard words. No full-page translation.

Read pages in a language you're learning without stopping to look up every unfamiliar word. Hintwise finds difficult words and adds short, contextual meanings right beside them. - Learn English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Russian. - Choose from 17 hint languages, or follow your browser language. - Set your level separately for each learning language, from beginner to near-native. - Display hints after words or above them. Japanese and Chinese hints include readings. - Click a hint to mark a word as known. - Enable or disable each site from the toolbar popup or with Alt+G. Bare IP addresses and localhost are skipped by default. - Supports menus and embedded page frames. Bring your own AI service: choose a provider, enter your API key and select a model. Supports OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions services and local Ollama. Provider charges and limits may apply. Privacy: Hintwise has no server of its own. Text on or near the screen is sent directly to the AI service you configure to generate hints. Settings and API keys remain in your browser's local storage. No analytics or advertising.
