Hide AI Overview - Simple Toggle changes the URL and query of eligible regular Google searches. Hide is selected by default. It requests Google's Web results filter with udm=14 and appends a trailing standalone -ai unless one is already present. Important: -ai is a real search exclusion operator. It can remove relevant results, especially when AI is part of your topic. It is not an official AI Overview off switch. Web mode also removes other search features. The udm=14 URL parameter is not a guaranteed permanent Google API, and Google's behavior may change. The popup has two choices: - Hide AI Overview: apply both URL changes to eligible Google searches. - Show AI Overview: stop adding these values and undo extension-added values on open eligible search pages where possible. Google decides whether an AI Overview appears; Show cannot guarantee one. The extension remembers which values it added with temporary boolean flags. User-supplied values are retained when ownership is known. If ownership is unavailable, Show removes only the combined signature of udm=14 and trailing -ai. This fallback can remove values you supplied yourself. A lone -ai or lone udm=14 is preserved without provenance. Works on HTTPS /search pages at www.google.com and the country-specific Google hosts listed in the extension manifest. Searches using tbm, a non-14 or empty udm, duplicate q/udm, or an empty query are left alone. It does not alter Google's page layout. Same-document search URL changes are checked every 500 ms while the page is running; browser throttling can delay this. Your preference applies across open supported search tabs and future searches. It persists locally in Chrome. Privacy and permissions The extension reads the current Google search URL in memory to perform its disclosed function. It never writes queries, URLs, page content, titles, or history to extension storage. It stores one local preference and three temporary boolean provenance flags per tab. Chrome sends the original and modified search requests to Google through ordinary browser navigation. Chrome and Google can retain their own search/history data. The extension has no analytics, telemetry, ads, accounts, remote code, or separate network requests. The storage permission saves your mode and temporary undo flags. Content-script access is limited to the listed Google search pages. The extension does not change your default search provider, homepage, new tab, or Chrome search settings.
