Aurora for Canvas is a free browser extension that gives the Canvas LMS by Instructure a clean, modern design and adds the study tools students use every day: a smarter dashboard, one to-do list for every course, a complete dark mode, a GPA calculator with what-if grades, instant search and Claude AI study help. Nearly every part can be customized, and any feature can be turned off. Aurora works on every school's Canvas site (any address ending in instructure.com), with nothing to set up. A DASHBOARD THAT SHOWS WHAT MATTERS See what is due today, what is due this week and what is missing the moment you open Canvas. Course cards show the next assignment for each class and can be dragged into any order, renamed and recolored. A daily progress ring shows how much of today's work is done. ONE TO-DO LIST AND PLANNER FOR EVERY COURSE Every assignment, quiz and discussion from all of your classes in a single list, grouped by date or by course. Check items off, add your own tasks, and switch between upcoming, missing and completed work. DARK MODE FOR ALL OF CANVAS A true dark theme for course pages, modules, assignments, grades, menus and Canvas's own tools, not only the home page. Smart dark mode recolors the bright areas that other dark themes miss. Choose light, dark or automatic to match your computer. GPA CALCULATOR AND WHAT-IF GRADES See your weighted and unweighted GPA, worked out from your current Canvas grades, with honors and AP/IB bonuses and credits you can set for each class. Try what-if scores to see how the next test would change your grade before you take it. Grades stay blurred until you click to show them, which keeps them private in class. INSTANT SEARCH Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) to jump to any course, assignment or page in a few keystrokes. ASK CLAUDE: AI STUDY HELP ON ANY PAGE A side panel that understands the Canvas page you are on. Ask it to break an assignment into steps, explain a reading, check your understanding of a math problem or plan your week. Answers are easy to read, with numbered steps, tables and real math notation. You decide exactly what Claude can see (the page, your to-do list, your grades), and it is set up to explain the work so you learn it, not to do it for you. Highlight any text on a page to ask about it, attach a picture or PDF, and pick a model: Opus, Sonnet or Haiku, with Flash for speed or MAX for harder questions. MAKE IT ENTIRELY YOURS Aurora has more than 90 settings, and every change appears instantly: • Theme: light, dark or automatic • Six accent colors, or build your own from any three colors • Backgrounds: aurora glow, soft, solid, or your own photo • Frosted glass panels with adjustable blur and opacity • Corner roundness, compact or comfortable spacing, and text size • Course card styles, sizes and per-course colors and nicknames • Fonts, animations, shadows and effects such as confetti and card tilt • What the dashboard shows: greeting, stats, to-do list, announcements • Canvas page options such as focus mode and a cleaner course menu Settings sync across your computers through your Chrome profile, and you can export or import them at any time. HOW TO GET ACCESS TO CLAUDE Everything in Aurora is free. Claude answers run through Aurora's server, so they need an access code. There are two ways to get one: 1. In Aurora, press "Request access" (on the welcome screen, in the Claude panel, or in Settings, Claude). Your request goes to Aurora's developer, and once it is approved, Claude turns on by itself. There is nothing to copy or type. 2. Or email willwgrossi@gmail.com with the subject "Aurora Claude access" and include your name and your school. You will receive a personal code to enter in Settings, Claude. Codes are personal and work on one computer. You can also connect your own Claude account or your own Anthropic API key instead. PRIVACY Your Canvas information stays in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you ask Claude a question, request access or report a bug, and then only what you choose to send. Aurora has no ads and no tracking, and your data is never sold. Saved Claude chats stay on your computer. GOOD TO KNOW • Works in Google Chrome on any Canvas site ending in instructure.com. • If you already use BetterCanvas or a similar Canvas theme extension, turn it off first so the two do not conflict. • Aurora is an independent project.
