TabChest
Overview
Save and restore tab workspaces. Your data stays on your device.
I built TabChest because my browser kept turning into a junk drawer. Forty tabs for one client project, twenty more for research I wasn't ready to close, and a bookmarks folder I never opened again. The workspace tools I tried all wanted an account and a monthly fee for something that felt like it should be simple. So this is the simple version. Pick the tabs that belong together, give them a name, and close them. When you need them again, one click opens everything back up in a new window, or in several windows if that's how you had it. HOW IT WORKS • Click the TabChest icon, type a name and hit Save. It saves the tabs in your current window by default, or you can pick tabs one by one, or grab every window at once. • Click a saved workspace to open it again. • The ⋯ menu lets you rename a workspace, refresh it with the tabs you have open right now, or delete it. If you change your mind, there's an Undo button for a few seconds afterwards. • Once you have a handful of workspaces, a search box shows up so you can jump straight to the one you want. YOUR TABS STAY ON YOUR COMPUTER There's no account and nothing to sign up for. Your workspaces are stored in your browser, on your device, and TabChest doesn't send your tabs or browsing history anywhere. Even the little site icons come from Chrome's own cache, so opening the popup doesn't contact the sites you've saved. You can export your workspaces to a file whenever you like and import it later, on another computer or after a reinstall. Exporting is free and always will be. If you'd like a nudge, TabChest can remind you once a week to make a backup. You can turn that off in Settings. FREE AND PRO The free version keeps up to 10 workspaces with 50 tabs each, which is plenty for a lot of people. If you need more, TabChest Pro gives you unlimited workspaces and up to 500 tabs in each one for a one-time $14.99. There's no subscription: you buy it once, paste your license key into Settings, and that's it. A FEW HONEST NOTES • Chrome doesn't let extensions reopen its own pages (like chrome://settings) or other extensions' pages, so TabChest skips those and tells you. • Opening a workspace adds new windows. It never closes or rearranges the tabs you already have open. • If you activate Pro, your license key (and only your license key) is sent to Lemon Squeezy, the store that handles payments, to confirm your purchase. WHY IT NEEDS THESE PERMISSIONS • Tabs: to read the titles and addresses of the tabs you choose to save, and to open them again. • Storage: to keep your workspaces and settings on your device. • Alarms and notifications: for the optional weekly backup reminder. • Favicon: to show site icons from Chrome's local cache. • Context menus: adds a "TabChest Settings" shortcut when you right-click the toolbar icon.
