YouTube Summarize
Overview
Summarize any YouTube video with ChatGPT. Adds a button to the player, pulls the transcript, and uses your existing session.
YouTube Summarize helps you get the value of long YouTube videos in a fraction of the time. It adds a Summarize button directly to the YouTube player and turns any video with available captions into a structured ChatGPT prompt automatically. Instead of manually copying transcripts, switching tabs, and writing prompts yourself, you click once and start reading a useful summary right away. How it works 1. Open a YouTube video with captions available 2. Click Summarize on the player 3. The extension builds a prompt from the video title, channel, URL, and transcript 4. ChatGPT opens with that prompt so you can get a clear summary right away What you get - A one-click path from video to summary, without transcript copy/paste - Structured output focused on a TL;DR, key details, practical takeaways, and timestamped points - Video context included so the summary stays grounded in the actual content - Timestamped points that make it easy to jump back to important moments - Support for your existing ChatGPT browser session, with no API setup required - An editable pre-prompt in settings so you can adjust the summary style - Optional temporary-chat mode for more private summarization sessions - Handling for longer transcripts so deep-dive videos remain practical to summarize Requires a YouTube video with captions/transcript availability and an active ChatGPT login in your browser.
