Hearlingo helps you understand what you read in Chrome. Select a word, sentence, or passage to hear it aloud or translate it without leaving the webpage. Practice pronunciation, check unfamiliar phrases, and listen at your own pace. READ SELECTED TEXT ALOUD • Listen with text-to-speech using a compatible installed system voice. • Choose a voice for each language and adjust reading speed from 0.5× to 2×. • Pause and resume when the voice supports it, or stop, restart, and replay. TRANSLATE WHILE YOU READ • Translate selected text with Chrome's built-in, on-device Translator. • Choose from 39 translation target options, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Availability depends on the language pair, browser, and device. • Copy a translation to use elsewhere. Chrome may need to download language packs. GET STARTED 1. Open an ordinary webpage and select some text. 2. Use Play selection in the reading rail to listen, or open the translation card and choose Translate. 3. Open Settings to choose your languages, voice, and speed. Auto play and Auto translate are optional and off by default. Enable them for future selections when you want automatic actions. Snooze or turn off Hearlingo from the reading rail or Settings. PRIVACY The extension has no account, advertising, analytics, developer-operated backend, or saved text history. Selected text and, when needed, nearby language-detection context are processed for the feature. Preferences stay in local extension storage. Replay can keep the latest reading in memory for up to five minutes after completion; translations are not saved. Interaction events and page-message metadata keep controls connected to the correct reading. Hearlingo does not keep browsing-history or interaction logs. Speech uses voices Chrome reports as local and native, but Chrome selects the provider at playback time, so exclusively local speech is not guaranteed. Browser-managed downloads and services are separate from Hearlingo. COMPATIBILITY This preview targets Chrome 138+ on Windows and macOS. Speech requires a compatible installed voice. Translation requires a supported browser, device, page, and language pair; HTTPS is recommended. Select up to 100,000 characters on ordinary webpages and supported text fields. Password fields, embedded frames, Chrome pages, the Chrome Web Store, PDFs, and local file URLs are not supported. If audio status remains uncertain after Stop, restart Chrome.
