Overview

Ask Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini about your Brightspace courses. One click, no password, read only.

Lectern connects your Brightspace to the chat app you already use. Sign in to your school's Brightspace as usual, click the Lectern icon once, and you get a private link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. From then on, every course is one question away. Ask what is due this week, whether you submitted the case memo, what the professor posted today, how much the midterm is worth, how you are doing in Statistics, who the teaching assistant is, or what is on the calendar next Monday. Ask it to read the syllabus or summarise this week's slides. Every answer is read from your own Brightspace at the moment you ask. Nothing is cached, so nothing is out of date. Lectern reads courses and terms, deadlines and submission status, assignments and instructions, grades, announcements, content, files, slides and readings (including PDF, Word and PowerPoint), the syllabus, discussions, the roster and the calendar. Setting up takes a few minutes. Add Lectern to Chrome. Open your school's Brightspace and click the icon, allowing it to read that one site. Then add Lectern to your chat app: the set-up page shows exactly what to enter for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, and the extension keeps the connection alive. Set it up once on the web and it works in the desktop and phone apps too. Lectern works with any school that uses Brightspace by D2L. Pick your school from the list or type its Brightspace address. There is nothing to register with your school and nothing to ask an administrator for. It uses the session your browser already has, the same way you do. It reads and never writes. Every request Lectern makes to Brightspace is a read. It cannot submit work, post or reply, mark anything complete or change a grade. It never asks for, sees or stores your password. It reads the signed-in session only for the Brightspace site you approve and, with your permission, the sign-in site that keeps that session fresh. Your private link is yours alone. Replace it at any time and the old one stops working everywhere. Forget the connection from the Lectern icon, or remove the extension, and the stored session, the link and the account are deleted. Lectern is free, has no ads and does not sell your information. It is independent of D2L, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and your school. Privacy policy and terms at lectern.chat.
