)Overview
Sprinkles learned vocabulary into webpages to help you learn languages passively every day. Friendly and memorable.
➤ Sprinkles is completely free. No account required, no subscriptions, no ads, and no monetization built into the extension at all. Hey, I’m Corey. I built Sprinkles because I was using another browser extension that helped me learn Mandarin by replacing occasional English words on websites with Chinese, and I loved the basic idea. What I didn’t love was everything around it. It was buggy, I couldn’t choose the exact words I wanted to learn, importing my own vocabulary wasn’t possible, and I had very little control over things like pronunciation or how words were displayed. So I started building the version I actually wanted to use. Sprinkles turns the websites you already browse into small moments of language practice. Add the vocabulary you want to learn, and Sprinkles will occasionally replace matching words on webpages with the language you’re studying. You can hover over a replacement to see more information, hear it pronounced, and gradually get more exposure to the words you actually care about. The big difference is that you control the vocabulary. Import your own CSV or spreadsheet, build decks manually, or use any word list you already have. Sprinkles isn’t limited to a fixed curriculum or a handful of predefined difficulty levels. It is also designed to work with virtually any language. Each vocabulary entry can include a replacement, definition, and optional secondary field, which is especially useful for things like Pinyin, Romaji, alternate scripts, or pronunciation guides. Sprinkles also uses your computer’s native text-to-speech voices, so you can choose from the voices already available on your operating system and adjust playback settings to find one that sounds best for the language you’re learning. What you can do with Sprinkles ➤Import vocabulary decks from CSV or spreadsheets ➤Create and edit your own custom decks ➤Learn virtually any language ➤Add secondary text such as Pinyin or Romaji ➤Replace words naturally while browsing normal websites ➤Hover over words to see definitions and additional information ➤Hear words using your computer’s native text-to-speech voices ➤Choose between available system voices and adjust audio playback ➤Control how frequently vocabulary appears ➤Practice words with lightweight flashcards ➤Pause Sprinkles or disable it on specific websites I originally built Sprinkles for myself because I wanted a simple, customizable way to reinforce the Mandarin vocabulary I was already learning without having to open another app and start a study session. It is still built around that idea. You choose what you want to learn. Sprinkles just helps you see and hear it more often while you’re already using the internet. There’s no account to create and nothing to buy. I’m not trying to turn this into another subscription service. It’s simply a project I wanted to exist, so I built it and decided to share it.
