Overview
Designed to support listening & speaking acquisition on YouTube: caption loops, in-context AI help, sync/speed, TTS. Free, no login.
Script Looper helps you build listening and speaking through real YouTube with subtitles, with AI-assisted meaning, looping, speed control, fine sync tweaks, and TTS—so practice stays in flow. [Quick start] 1. Install On Google, search for "Script Looper" → add from the Chrome Web Store (free, no sign-in). 2. Open a captioned YouTube video Pick a video from the Curated captioned-YouTube picks blog (drenglish.tistory.com), or any video with subtitles. 3. One-click AI script panel In the subtitles area, click the robot icon(🤖) to generate a side panel script with line-by-line contextual explanations (via ChatGPT). [Core workflow (shortcuts)] ● Subtitle click → Z: toggle infinite loop for that subtitle segment. ● A / D: move to previous / next subtitle while looping. ● < / >: adjust playback speed (e.g. 0.75×, 0.5×). ● 1–4 and Q–R: nudge the audio window to match the subtitle timing (±0.1s / ±0.5s) while you listen. [Ask AI in context] ● Press Space to pause → select text → click ["Ask ChatGPT] or ["] pop-up. Good for words, idioms, phrasal verbs, slang, grammar, with examples grounded in the surrounding context. ● Press Space again to jump back into the script view and continue looping. [TTS for clarity and pronunciation] ● Click an English subtitle line (or an example sentence in the AI answer) → press C: toggle infinite TTS repeat using three native-like voices. ● A / D: previous / next line while repeating. [Multi-caption looping] ● Drag-select multiple subtitles → X: toggle cycle loop across the selected lines. [Why Script Looper] ● Removes friction: looping, speed, sync, and AI explanations are reachable without breaking your study rhythm. ● Built around real input: learn from authentic speech on YouTube—not textbook-only audio. ● Re-segmented subtitles: lines are split into more readable chunks (phrases / sense units) to improve immersion. [What makes it different] 1. One-click contextual script panel next to the video. 2. Keyboard-first looping + navigation (Z, A/D, </>). 3. Precise sync adjustment for mismatched captions vs audio. 4. Context Q&A with ChatGPT from a paused selection. 5. TTS loop practice (C, A/D). 6. Works for many languages 🌍: if a YouTube video has subtitles, you can use it for lots of target languages. 7. UI language support (21 languages): e.g. if your browser language is Vietnamese, explanations can be generated in Vietnamese. [Optional resources] 📝 Curated captioned-YouTube picks (blog): https://drenglish.tistory.com/ 🎥 Developer YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ScriptLooper-English [A note on “comprehensible input”] Listening and speaking improve fastest when you accumulate lots of understandable spoken input (comprehensible input) from real content. Script Looper is designed to help you stay immersed, repeat effortlessly, and resolve unknowns quickly so input volume goes up without the tool getting in the way. [Free extension] Script Looper is free and does not require login. Install it, open a captioned YouTube video, and start looping with meaning.
