It needs no extra hardware. What you get • Light from the picture: colours flow out from the edges of the video and fade into the page. • Smooth gradients: dark fades stay clean, without banding or blocky pixels. • Widescreen films: black bars built into a video are detected, so the light comes from the picture. • Empty areas fill with light: around the video in theater mode, and beside narrower videos in fullscreen. • A readable page: brightness is capped on bright scenes, so titles and comments stay legible. • Efficient drawing: Hale uses your graphics card and stops drawing while the video is paused or out of view. Settings Brightness, Spread, Blur, Vividness and a 30 or 60 fps frame rate. Changes apply straight away, and the small preview in the popup uses the colours of the video you're watching. Good to know • Works on watch pages and live streams. Shorts and embedded players aren't supported. • Graphics acceleration must be on in Chrome. Hale tells you if it's off and opens the setting for you. • The effect is strongest on the dark theme. On the light theme the glow is a gentle tint. • Protected paid films may show no glow.
