Overview
A better way for humans to review AI generated code — clustered changes, summaries, keyboard-first. Free and open source.
Agents are writing more code than you can read, and GitHub still hands you every changed file in alphabetical order. Guided Review is a Chrome extension that uses AI to help you review code — not to review it for you. Open any GitHub pull request, click Start Guided Review, and the diff becomes an ordered walkthrough on top of the page you're already on: related hunks grouped into review units, foundational changes before call-sites and tests, a short summary on each step. You still read the code. You still have the final say. It runs on your own API key for Claude, OpenAI, or Grok. There is no Guided Review server in the middle, because there is no Guided Review server. WHAT YOU GET Review changes, not files Your AI provider groups the diff into review units — related hunks that belong together — and orders them so the change reads as a story instead of a file list. Every line you see comes from the real parsed diff; invented file paths and hunk ids are dropped before they reach you. Read and navigate how you write The whole review is keyboard-first. Arrow keys step through units and scroll code, "c" opens a comment, "v" then "u" or "s" switches unified and split view, Cmd/Ctrl+Enter submits. You will not need to lift your hands from the keyboard to browse, comment, or review. A 2-line summary per unit A short overview of every change, so you know what you're looking at before you read it. Sometimes it's really helpful, sometimes it's not. Take it with a grain of salt — it's guidance, not a verdict. Comment and submit without leaving GitHub Draft line comments (single or multi-line) as you go, then Comment, Approve, or Request changes straight from the overlay once you've connected GitHub. The tools corporate security already approved Bring the provider your company already allows — Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, or Grok (xAI) — and your own API key. You pick the provider and model on the options page. Please check with your employer if they have policies about this. Your code never touches our infrastructure No backend. Not even the serverless kind. The extension talks to GitHub and to the AI provider you configured, and to nothing else. Your API key, your diffs, and your draft comments stay in the extension's own storage on your machine. We never see any of it, because there's nothing on our end to see it with. Free and open source Apache-2.0, on GitHub. Read the code that handles your API key, fork it, point it at a different provider, or open a PR. Free until it can no longer be maintained for free — forever is a long time, and no VC is funding this one. GETTING STARTED 1. Install the extension. 2. Open the options page and add an API key for Claude, OpenAI, or Grok. 3. Open any GitHub pull request and click Start Guided Review. 4. Optionally connect GitHub to leave comments and submit the review from the overlay. Docs: https://guidedreview.dev/docs Source and issues: https://github.com/nshntarora/guidedreview
