)Overview
Every page remembered
🐱 gTabby is your local-first browser memory and personal knowledge base. Never keep 50 tabs open just because you're afraid to lose your place. gTabby lets you take notes, track tasks, and save images right next to any webpage. When you close a page, its context stays saved. 🌟 4 Core Views 📝 Pages & Side Panel: Write Markdown notes directly beside any webpage. Use writing prompts, find & replace (Cmd/Ctrl+F), and rich-text paste. 🎓 My Knowledge: Organize your notes into a clean folder tree. Filed notes are permanent documents that stay saved even if you close or delete the original tab. ✅ Next Steps: Any checkbox (- [ ]) in your notes automatically appears in this unified task list. Set finish dates and jump straight back to the source note. 🖼️ Images: Save screenshots and web images directly into your notes. Browse them in a responsive visual gallery. 🛡️ Smart, Safe Tab Cleanup ❄️ Auto-Freeze: Unload inactive tabs from memory without closing them. 📦 Auto-Close: Archive stale tabs into a recoverable library. Your notes are always protected. 🔀 Merge Duplicates: Automatically combine duplicate tabs (like Google Docs or Sheets) to save screen space. 🔒 100% Local-First & Private No Accounts & No Tracking: All notes, images, and history stay on your computer. No Broad Permissions: gTabby does not inject code into websites or read your passwords. Optional Chrome Sync: Sync notes and folders across your own signed-in Chrome browsers. AI-Ready Exports: Export notes as clean Markdown (gTabby_knowledge.md), HTML snapshots, or automated daily folder backups. 🆕 What's New in v3.5.0 🤖 Capture AI Conversations: Easily bring learnings from Gemini and ChatGPT into your notes—complex math formulas and tables paste seamlessly into clean Markdown. 📁 Export Knowledge to Folder: Save your entire knowledge base into a clean, browsable directory tree with styled HTML notes, relative images, and an index page. 🧮 Math Formulas: Write inline ($...$) and display ($$...$$) math equations, with automatic LaTeX conversion when copying from Wikipedia, ArXiv, or papers. 📊 Markdown Tables: Clean rendering of GFM tables in notes, plus auto-conversion when pasting tables from web pages, Google Docs, or Sheets. 🖼️ Self-Contained HTML Snapshots: HTML snapshots now embed all note images directly as data URIs, creating completely portable, single-file offline archives. 💾 Streamlined Backup & Restore: Redesigned layout clearly separating automatic daily backups from on-demand exports and imports. 🗑️ Recoverable Note Trash: Deleted native notes move to a 30-day trash with one-click restore and automatic asset protection. 📝 Rich Multi-Line Lists: Bullet and numbered items can now contain code blocks, math formulas, blockquotes, and sub-lists without breaking outline structure. ⚡ Quick Tips Side Panel: Click the pinned gTabby icon to take notes while reading. Quick Search: Type gt + Space in the Chrome address bar to search all your notes instantly. Right-Click Capture: Highlight text or right-click any image to add it directly to your page note. File to Knowledge: Click the 🎓 icon on any note to save it to a permanent folder. Keyboard Power: Press ? anytime to view all keyboard shortcuts (supports arrow keys and Vim H/J/K/L). Reclaim RAM: Go to Preferences ➔ Page Lifecycle to auto-freeze idle tabs. Daily Backup: Go to Preferences ➔ Backup & Restore to turn on automatic local daily backups. 📣 Privacy & Disclaimer Privacy First gTabby stores only the annotations you created for webpages and browsing related metadata. The information is needed to provide you tab history, page memory, activity sorting, backup, etc. It does not read page content, cookies, passwords, or inject code into webpages. It does not use developer-operated cloud services. By default, all annotations stay on your device. If you enable Chrome Sync, gTabby synchronizes only the annotation data needed across your own Chrome browsers, including page URLs, titles, notes, and labels. 📣 Disclaimer gTabby is an independent personal side project. It was originally developed as an internal tool before being released publicly. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Google.
