GroundTab Connect Codex and Claude Code to Chrome for read-only web research. GroundTab gives your coding agent access to real web pages when normal fetching is blocked, incomplete, or requires JavaScript. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the matching GroundTab plugin for Codex or Claude Code. 2. Ask the agent to set up GroundTab. 3. Enter the one-time pairing code in the Chrome extension. Once paired, the agent can search the web, fetch static HTML without opening a tab, and fall back to an inactive rendered tab when a page requires JavaScript. READ-ONLY BY DESIGN GroundTab does not click controls, type into pages, submit forms, solve CAPTCHAs, bypass logins or paywalls, or expose cookie values. If a page cannot be accessed safely, GroundTab returns an error. PAGE ACCESS AND DATA USE GroundTab requests HTTP(S) site access so it can read user-requested URLs without requiring a manual click for every research page. Requested URLs and bounded readable page content are processed locally and sent over 127.0.0.1 to the user's Codex or Claude Code plugin. GroundTab has no cloud service and enables no remote telemetry by default. Users can restrict the extension's site access through Chrome settings. The default local policy blocks banking, healthcare, administration, email, password-manager, localhost, private-network, and cloud-metadata destinations.
