Green Prompting is a tiny governance layer on top of your AI usage. It shows a minimal, non-blocking overlay on popular AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, etc.) with rough guesstimates of: – Current prompt size (tokens) – Electricity use (kWh) – Water use (liters) – Lifetime totals of tokens, energy, water, and prompt count (per browser) You also get a rotating strip of Sustainable AI offers that you control entirely from a simple Google Sheet (Offer, Link, CTA). Use it to highlight your own tools, research, or partner solutions. How it works – Uses a simple heuristic to estimate tokens from characters, then converts to kWh and liters with transparent constants in content-script.js. – No integration with any AI provider or API. It just watches what you type into AI prompt boxes in your browser. – Lifetime stats are stored locally using chrome.storage.local. – Offers are loaded read-only from a public Google Sheet you configure. Privacy – No prompt text is stored. – No user IDs, emails, or URLs are stored. – Only anonymous numeric aggregates (tokens, kWh, liters, prompt count) are kept locally in your browser. – Nothing is sent to any external server by this extension.
