Overview

Translate any text field, textarea or rich-text editor in place with OpenAI models, keeping the formatting intact.

GPT Input Translate: translate any text field in place with OpenAI GPT Input Translate translates the content of any editable field directly in your browser using OpenAI models: input boxes, textareas and rich-text editors such as the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg), the Classic editor (TinyMCE), Elementor, Gmail and most web-based editors. Right-click, pick the menu entry, done. KEY FEATURES • Formatting preserved by design. The model never sees your markup: only the text is sent, wrapped in numbered markers, and written back into exactly the same places. Tags, attributes, HTML entities, WordPress block comments, shortcodes, Markdown, template tags and code blocks stay untouched, both in visual editors and in code/text views. • Works inside rich-text editors. contentEditable editors are translated text node by text node, including editors that live inside iframes. Switching to "Text" mode before translating is no longer needed. • Translate the whole field or just a selection. Select part of the text first to translate only that part. • Undo. Ctrl+Z brings the original text back (the browser's own undo in inputs and textareas, handled by the extension in rich-text editors). The confirmation toast also offers an Undo button. • Choose your OpenAI model. Curated list of current models (gpt-5.6, gpt-5.4, gpt-6, gpt-4.1 and gpt-4o families) with pricing hints and retirement notices, live refresh from your own account, or a custom model ID. Model-specific parameters are handled automatically. • Additional context. Describe the domain, tone, formality, glossary and terms to keep untranslated: it is sent with every translation. • Clear feedback. Progress indicator with cancel for long texts, readable error messages, and long texts split into parallel requests. • Privacy. Your API key is stored in your Chrome profile and used only by the extension's background worker to call the OpenAI API (or a compatible endpoint you configure). Text goes straight from your browser to that endpoint. Nothing is collected or sent anywhere else. • Italian and English interface. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open the extension settings, paste your OpenAI API key, choose the target language and, optionally, context instructions. Use "Check connection" and the built-in playground to try it out. 2. Right-click inside any text field, textarea or editor and choose "Translate with GPT → <your language>". 3. The translation replaces the original text in place, formatting intact. Press Ctrl+Z to get the original back. REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITS You need an OpenAI API key; usage is billed by OpenAI to your account. Chrome 116 or newer. Editors that draw on a canvas, such as Google Docs, are not supported.
