Overview

Google and YouTube in their old look: pick any year from 1997 to 2024. An unofficial fan project.

Gplex Extended brings back the old look of Google. Pick a year from 1997 to 2024 and Google's websites look the way they did back then: the logo, the navigation bar, the buttons, the footer and even the tab icon. Everything you see is real and current. Your searches, your email and your files are today's, just shown in the design of the year you picked. HOW IT WORKS Choose a year on the settings page and Gplex redraws each Google page in that year's design as it loads. Search results come back with the period's layout, including knowledge panels and "People also ask" boxes drawn the way they used to look, with quoted answers from real web pages instead of AI-written ones. Your inbox, your maps, your documents and your other Google pages follow the same year, and so do the sign-in pages, which are restyled only: nothing you type there is read. Every part can be switched on or off separately, so you can keep anything just as Google has it today. YOUTUBE Gplex Extended for YouTube shows YouTube in the layout of your year as well, using the real YouTube design of that time. It works together with the separate V3 extension, which needs to be installed for YouTube. It is based on StarTube by lightbeam24, and you can also pick any of its layouts by hand. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Nothing is collected. Your settings, and the name and picture Google shows in its own bar, stay in your browser. There are no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no server of ours involved: the extension only talks to Google and YouTube, the same way their own pages do. There are no AI features either; Google's AI prompts are removed, not added.
