TheTab - OneTab Alternative | Tab Manager

Overview
Frustrated with OneTab changes? Save all tabs with one click, undo mistakes, stay private. Free forever. No account. Works offline.
Save every open tab with one click and get them back exactly how you left them. TheTab is a fast, fully local tab manager for Chrome and Firefox, built for people who liked OneTab's simplicity but wanted undo, real organization, and a maintained extension behind it. HOW SAVING WORKS Press Ctrl+Shift+1 (Cmd+Shift+1 on Mac) or click the icon. Your unpinned, ungrouped tabs are saved and closed in one action - pinned tabs and tabs already sitting in a native browser tab group are left alone, so a save never tears apart a workspace you built on purpose. Need something more specific? Right-click for save this tab, save the whole window, save tabs to the left or right, save every other tab, save one tab group, or save every window at once. UNDO Every delete and every restore drops a toast you can undo. It is the single most-requested OneTab feature that OneTab still does not have. AUTO-ORGANIZED Saved tabs are grouped by the date and time you saved them. If a tab came from a native browser tab group, that group's name and color are rebuilt exactly when you restore it. SIDE PANEL Open your saved tabs next to whatever you're doing instead of switching away from your current page (Ctrl+Shift+2 / Cmd+Shift+2). On Firefox this is the browser's native sidebar. FIND A TAB IN SECONDS A search box filters everything you've saved. Type "tt" in the address bar to search without opening the extension at all. Settings has its own search box too, so a specific toggle is never more than a few keystrokes away. FOLDERS, TAGS, STARS, NOTES File groups into folders, tag them, star the ones you want to find fast, and attach a multi-line note to any group. SORT, OR KEEP YOUR OWN ORDER Sort saved groups by title, date, or tab count, and sort the tabs inside a group by title or URL. Switch back to manual any time to get your own drag order back. MOVE TABS BETWEEN GROUPS Select any tabs, on the saved-tabs page or in the side panel, and move them into a brand-new group or an existing one. CLOSED A TAB YOU NEEDED? TheTab keeps a history of tabs you have closed, separate from your saved groups, so you can restore one well after your browser's own "recently closed" list has forgotten it. On by default with a 30-day retention window, adjustable from 1 to 365 days in Settings. STATISTICS, NOT JUST A LIST A dashboard shows 30 days of saving activity, a weekly heatmap, which domains you save from most, and an estimate of the memory you have freed by closing tabs instead of leaving them open. Ten achievements unlock as you hit real milestones, and TheTab tracks your daily streak. YOUR DATA SURVIVES A REINSTALL A safety net mirrors your most recent groups into your browser's own sync storage automatically, so an accidental uninstall or a browser-forced disable does not wipe everything. For a full offline copy, turn on scheduled backups (daily or weekly) to a file in your Downloads folder, or mirror every saved group into a dedicated "TheTab" bookmarks folder that stays in sync as you go - both are one-way, TheTab never touches anything outside the folders it created. Crash-protection snapshots your open tabs every five minutes so a browser crash does not cost you a session either. EXPORT, IMPORT, MIGRATE Export everything as JSON, or export any single group as bookmarks. Import accepts TheTab's own backups, plus OneTab's text export, Session Buddy JSON, and Tab Session Manager JSON, so switching over does not mean starting from zero. Choose to merge an import with what you have or replace it outright; a backup is taken automatically first either way. COPY WITHOUT SAVING Select tabs and copy them to your clipboard as Title - URL pairs, as plain URLs, or as Markdown links, for dropping straight into a doc or a chat. PRIVACY, BY DESIGN Every saved tab, note, folder and tag stays on your device. There is no account, no cloud sync, nothing to log into. TheTab does send anonymous usage analytics by default: which settings people change, and a once-a-day check that the extension is installed and running, carrying no page content, no URLs, and no tab titles. Turn it off any time from Settings, Privacy, "Help improve TheTab" - the toggle applies on Chrome, Edge, and Firefox alike. DARK MODE, AND EVERYTHING ELSE YOU EXPECT Instant light and dark theme toggle, keyboard shortcuts you can remap from the options page, and a settings page you can search instead of scroll. WORKS OFFLINE, NO ACCOUNT, FREE No sign-up, no subscription, no premium tier. TheTab works with no internet connection at all, because nothing it does depends on a server. Runs on Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, and other Chromium browsers, plus a dedicated Firefox build with native sidebar support. Actively maintained: browser APIs change and an extension that does not keep up with them quietly breaks.
