Google Docs — Download image as JPG

Adds a "Download image as JPG" entry to the right-click menu on images in Google Docs.

Getting a single image out of a Google Doc is oddly hard. Docs has no "save image" command, so the usual options are taking a screenshot (which loses quality), publishing the document to the web, or downloading the whole thing as a ZIP just to fish one file out of it. This extension adds one line to the menu you already use. HOW IT WORKS Click an image in your document to select it, then right-click it. A "Download image as JPG" entry appears in Google Docs' own context menu, below the usual commands. Click it and the image lands in your Downloads folder. That's the whole extension. No toolbar button, no popup, no account, no settings to configure. FULL QUALITY, NOT SCREEN QUALITY The image you get is the original file stored in the document, at its original resolution — not a capture of what's on your screen. An image that was inserted at 4000 pixels wide and displayed at 600 comes back at 4000. PNGs, WebP and other formats are re-encoded to JPEG at high quality. Because JPEG has no transparency, transparent areas are filled with white. PRIVACY Nothing leaves your browser. The extension has no server, collects no data, and sends no analytics. The image is read from your document and written straight to your own Downloads folder. PERMISSIONS, AND WHY Clipboard read: Google Docs draws your document onto a canvas, so images are not ordinary web page elements that can be saved directly. The extension asks Docs to copy the selected image and then reads it back — this is the only reliable way to get the original file rather than a screenshot. The clipboard is read only at the moment you click the menu entry, and only to retrieve that image. Access to docs.google.com and googleusercontent.com: to add the menu entry inside the editor, and to retrieve the image file itself from Google's image servers. GOOD TO KNOW - Works in the Google Docs editor. In view-only or published documents, Chrome's built-in "Save image as…" already works. - Chrome will ask for clipboard permission the first time you use it. - Reload any Google Docs tab that was already open when you installed.
