Privacy Shield
Overview
Cover your screen with a customizable tint, blur and dim overlay to keep prying eyes away. Optional local webcam gaze mode.
Privacy Shield keeps your screen private when other people are nearby: in an open office, on a train, in a café, or at a shared desk. It adds a layer on top of the web page. It never changes your display or system settings, and turning it off puts the page back exactly as it was. THREE WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR SCREEN • Overlay: tint, blur, dim or grey out the whole page in one click. Start from Dark, Frosted, Warm or Blackout, then fine-tune the strength and blur. No camera needed. • Spotlight: everything is covered except a window that follows your cursor, your eyes, or both. The cursor leads while you move it, and your eyes take over when it rests. Choose a circle, soft box or reading band, and set its size and softness. • Look-away guard: your screen stays clear while you look at it, and blurs and dims when you look away at a colleague, at your keyboard, or when you stand up. Choose the blur, the dimming and how fast it reacts. If tracking stops, the screen blurs instead of staying open. EYE TRACKING THAT STAYS ON YOUR COMPUTER The Look-away guard and the eye-following Spotlight use your webcam to estimate where you are looking. This happens entirely on your device: • Camera frames are analysed in memory by a model bundled inside the extension, then discarded. • No video is recorded, saved or uploaded. • There are no accounts, no analytics and no remote code. • The camera is only used after you choose to set it up, and it is released when you turn the shield off. Eye tracking is optional. Overlay and the cursor Spotlight never touch the camera. EASY TO USE • One-click switch in the popup, or press Alt+Shift+P • Double-tap Esc to toggle without opening the popup • Per-site rules: run everywhere, only on the sites you list, or everywhere except the sites you list • Guided calibration that measures your real accuracy, a one-key recentre (Alt+Shift+C), and optional learning from your clicks • Export and import your settings, with optional sync of look-and-behaviour settings through your browser • Works offline, in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers PRICING Privacy Shield is free to start. Eye tracking is planned to become a one-time purchase later (no subscription). Overlay and the cursor Spotlight are intended to stay free. Any change will be announced before it takes effect. GOOD TO KNOW • Webcam eye tracking is approximate (typically about 100 to 250 pixels of error). Privacy Shield sizes the spotlight window to your measured accuracy, but expect it to be less exact than dedicated eye-tracking hardware. • Privacy Shield hides your screen from people looking at it. It does not block screenshots, screen sharing or recording, and it is not a replacement for locking your computer. • It works on regular web pages. Browsers do not allow extensions on chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store or the built-in PDF viewer, and fullscreen video may draw above the overlay.
