Overview

Marks AI-generated images on any webpage using C2PA provenance metadata, known AI image hosts, captions and pixel analysis.

AI Stop Slop checks images on every page you visit and marks AI-generated ones with a small "AI Generated" badge — so you know what you're looking at. The toolbar icon shows how many AI images were found on the current tab. HOW IT WORKS Images are checked as they scroll into view: 1. Provenance metadata — reads the C2PA Content Credentials and IPTC labels that major AI image generators embed in the files they create, as well as generation settings saved by popular open-source image tools. 2. Known AI image hosts — recognises images served directly from well-known AI art platforms. 3. Captions and source sites — checks the image's own alt text, title and caption for phrases like "AI-generated", and whether a search result or gallery card links to an AI art site. 4. Neural network (experimental, off by default) — an on-device image classifier for pictures with no other clues. In tests it caught ~80% of AI images from 14 generators with ~5% false positives on real photos; matches are marked "Likely AI". Downloads a 190 MB model once; images are still analysed locally. 5. Pixel analysis (experimental, off by default) — a rough statistical guess from colours and edges; matches are marked "Possibly AI". Real camera photos (EXIF with camera model and exposure data) are recognised and never flagged by the experimental checks. LIMITATIONS Many sites strip metadata when images are re-uploaded (social networks, messengers), and some generators don't embed any. Without the optional neural network such images stay unmarked rather than guessed at. The neural network catches most of them, but not all, and occasionally mistakes a real photo for AI — which is why its matches say "Likely AI" rather than "AI Generated". FEATURES • Works automatically on every site • Counter on the toolbar icon + per-page stats in the popup • Handles lazy-loaded images, responsive images and carousels • No accounts, no API keys, no external AI services • Configurable minimum image size and sensitivity • Smart caching — each image is analysed once per 24 h PRIVACY All analysis runs inside your browser. To read an image's metadata the extension downloads it from the same server the page already loads it from (without cookies). If you turn on the neural network, its model is downloaded once from the project's GitHub page. No image, URL or result is ever sent to the developer or any third party. • Image files (metadata / pixels) — never sent anywhere, analysed locally • Image URLs — never sent anywhere • Alt text / captions — never sent anywhere • Extension settings — never sent by the extension (synced by Chrome itself) • Neural network model (optional) — downloaded once from GitHub Releases; nothing is uploaded
