Gmail Tab Inbox Unread Count
Overview
Shows your Gmail Inbox unread count on the browser tab's favicon, in any color.
Keep your Gmail unread count visible at a glance, even when the tab is too narrow to show the title. This extension draws your Inbox unread count directly onto the Gmail tab's favicon, so you can tell at a glance whether you have new mail without switching tabs. It reads the count from Gmail's own atom feed, so the badge stays accurate from anywhere in Gmail — Inbox, Sent, Drafts, labels, or an open conversation. FEATURES • Unread Inbox count drawn on the favicon, readable even in a narrow tab • Stays accurate from any Gmail view, not just the Inbox • Customizable text color — pick any color from the options page to match your browser theme (great for dark tab strips) • Counts above 99 display as "99+" • Multi-account safe (handles /u/0, /u/1, etc.) • Auto-refreshes every 30 seconds CUSTOMIZING THE COLOR Go to chrome://extensions, click "Details" on this extension, then "Extension options". Pick a color and the favicon updates automatically. PRIVACY This extension does not transmit any data externally. The unread count is read directly from your own Gmail account via Gmail's built-in atom feed, which is accessible only to your authenticated browser session. No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party servers. Your chosen text color is saved with chrome.storage.sync so it follows you across devices signed into the same browser profile. PERMISSIONS • storage — to remember your chosen favicon color • Access to mail.google.com — to read your unread count and update the favicon
