Virtual CAM — Real-Time AI Avatars from Consented Reference Images Virtual CAM helps users create a live AI avatar using their webcam and a reference image. It is designed for creative demonstrations, avatar presentations, and exploring AI video transformations with the permission of the person shown in the reference image. WHAT VIRTUAL CAM DOES Virtual CAM transforms the appearance of a live webcam stream based on a user-selected reference image. The generated avatar follows the live speaker’s facial expressions, lip movements, blinking, and head movements. Users can view their original camera feed alongside the AI-generated video preview. The output is an AI transformation, and its appearance and motion accuracy may vary depending on lighting, camera quality, internet connectivity, and the selected model. REFERENCE IMAGES AND PERMISSION Users may upload a photograph of themselves or an image of another adult who has explicitly agreed to its use for AI avatar generation. Permission must cover using the image to create an animated AI representation. Possession of a photograph does not automatically mean the user has permission to use the person’s likeness. Virtual CAM is intended for transparent, consent-based use. Users must not use it to impersonate someone without permission, mislead viewers about who is speaking, or bypass identity-verification systems. When sharing the generated video, users should clearly tell viewers that it is an AI avatar. HOW TO USE VIRTUAL CAM 1. Open Virtual CAM from the extension icon. 2. Complete any required service-access configuration. 3. Click Start camera and grant webcam permission. 4. Choose a reference image you are authorized to use. 5. Select the available AI model and enter a transformation prompt. 6. Click Connect and transform to start the AI-generated preview. 7. Click Stop when the session is finished. CLOUD PROCESSING AND REQUIREMENTS Virtual CAM uses Decart’s cloud-based AI service to process video. An active internet connection, a working webcam, webcam permission, and valid service access are required. During a transformation session, webcam video and the selected reference image are transmitted to the AI service for processing. A transformation prompt is also sent when provided. Service access may require an account, an access token, and available paid credits. Installing the extension does not include unlimited AI processing. VIDEO AND AUDIO Virtual CAM transforms video. It does not clone or transform the speaker’s voice. The browser preview does not automatically become a camera that other applications can select. Sending the output to a meeting application requires a separately supported virtual-camera setup.
