Overview

Improve your chess.com experience: daily stats, banned opponent detection, and more

Chess.com Companion turns your Chrome side panel into an analytics dashboard for chess.com. The extension runs read-only next to the board: it never modifies a game, never plays a move, and never sends a suggestion while you play. It simply aggregates and formats data that's already public on chess.com, to save you time and help you understand your opponents as well as your own play. HOW IT WORKS After installation, a click on the icon opens the side panel directly, and it stays accessible while you browse or play on chess.com. A read-only script runs on chess.com pages to automatically detect the two players in the current game and the number of moves played, without ever touching the board display (aside from a simple optional highlight, described below). All statistics come from chess.com's public API. "CURRENT GAME" TAB (free) As soon as a game starts, or as soon as you view a game on chess.com, this tab automatically detects your opponent and shows within seconds: - their average Elo across all speeds, - their account age, - their recent win rate, - their total number of games played. A discreet "New account" badge appears if the account is less than 7 days old - a simple informational signal, not an accusation. The extension also handles edge cases (coach, bot) cleanly without showing fake statistics. In analysis or game-review context, the tab goes further and shows the opponent's most played opening, cross-referenced with a real opening theory database (see below). This extra layer deliberately never appears during a live game, to stay within the bounds of fair play. OPENING THEORY HIGHLIGHTING ON THE BOARD (free) In analysis mode, if the displayed game follows a known theory line, the extension highlights the square of the next theoretical move directly on the board, with the same visual style as chess.com's native highlighting. The highlight disappears automatically as soon as the game departs from theory or exceeds about twenty moves. The theory database is a real opening reference (ECO codes A through E, derived from the open source project lichess-org/chess-openings), bundled locally inside the extension: no external network call is needed for this feature, so no loading time and no data sent to a third party. "PROFILE" TAB (free, with a couple of Pro details) Check your own statistics or those of any tracked player, over the period of your choice (today, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, 90 days, 1 year, or full history): - number of games, wins, losses, draws, and win rate, - detailed breakdown by game speed (bullet, blitz, rapid, etc.) with the starting and current Elo for the period, plus the delta - each speed stays cleanly separate from the others so it never skews an average, - most played opening, cross-referenced with the real theory database, moves shown clearly line by line, - player avatar and country. This tab also includes a paginated list of opponents you've faced who have since been banned by chess.com for cheating, with a read/new system to easily spot recent bans. A freshness note always shows the date of the last game known to chess.com, since indexing on chess.com's side can take a little time after a game ends. The "Today" and "14 days" period filters, along with PGN export of the most played opening, are part of the Pro subscription (see below); every other period and detail stays free. "SEARCH" TAB (free, with Pro for deeper prep) The Search tab lets you look up any chess.com username, not just your current opponent, with its own period and speed filters, and keeps a history of your recent searches to revisit in one click. The searched player's profile card, stats, and most played opening are free, up to 3 searches per week (7 days and up for the period filter). Going Pro removes the search limit and unlocks the full period range plus PGN export of the opening, along with deeper analysis built for real opponent preparation: - Head-to-head: the complete history of all your games against the searched player, across every period (since chess.com doesn't natively offer this comparison, the extension rebuilds it from the player's full archive). - Opening repertoire by color: which openings a player favors as White and as Black, and the real win rate achieved on each line. - Time patterns: performance grouped by hour range (4-hour blocks, clearly labeled - no need to hover to understand) and by day of the week, with a "tilt" detection comparing win rate in the first versus second half of a session. - Playing style: indicators based on real chess.com data (average game length, share of wins by checkmate, on time, or by opponent resignation), with no invented label like "aggressive" or "positional" - only verifiable numbers. - Bulk PGN export: export in one click every game from a given repertoire line, or the entire head-to-head record against a player, ready to reopen in your favorite analysis software. The searched player's card also shows their current Elo in every speed they've played, at a glance. PRO SUBSCRIPTION Going Pro removes the weekly search limit, unlocks the "Today"/"14 days" period filters and PGN export on the Profile and Search tabs, and adds the Search tab's head-to-head, repertoire, time patterns, and playing style analysis. It's offered through a monthly or annual subscription, securely managed by Stripe (card payment, no banking data ever passes through the extension). The subscription can be managed or cancelled at any time from the Stripe customer portal, accessible directly from the extension. PRIVACY AND SECURITY Chess.com Companion doesn't collect any personally identifiable data beyond what's strictly necessary to manage the Pro subscription (an anonymous technical identifier tied to your browser). The extension: - never reads or modifies the content of a game in progress to assist you while playing, - never logs in to any chess.com account and never asks for your credentials, - only communicates with chess.com's official API and our own license server - no data is ever resold or shared with third parties, - only runs on chess.com pages, with the minimum permissions necessary. WHO IS IT FOR? Whether you just want to quickly check who you're up against before a game, track your own progress over time, or seriously prepare for a match against a recurring opponent through real scouting work (repertoire, playing-hour habits, head-to-head history), Chess.com Companion adapts to your level of involvement, from the casual curious player to the competitor who prepares their games. Install the extension, open the side panel, and let Chess.com Companion do the background work while you focus on the board.
