Jev Locate
Overview
Generate robust, unique XPath locators for any element you select in Chrome DevTools, ranked by the Jev AI model.
Jev Locate finds robust, unique locators for web elements, right inside Chrome DevTools. Select any element in the Elements panel and the "Jev Locate" pane suggests up to 5 XPath locators, ranked by how likely they are to survive UI changes. Built for test-automation engineers working with Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, WebdriverIO and similar tools. HOW IT WORKS • Jev Locate reads the selected element's attributes, classes and text, and those of its surroundings. • The Jev AI model (by TypeSafe) scores how stable each one is: test ids and meaningful names score high; generated ids, hashed CSS-in-JS classes and utility classes score low. • An enhanced Robula+ search combines the best-scored attributes into the shortest locators that match only your element, verified against the live page. FEATURES • Locators anchored on stable attributes, not brittle positions • Handles repeated items (cards, rows, lists) by anchoring on unique nearby content, e.g. the card title • Short, readable XPath: prefers //anchor//button over long /div/div/button chains • Robustness score and "based on" explanation for every suggestion • One-click Copy and Highlight (flashes the matched element on the page) • Works in same-origin iframes • Optional CSS selectors (experimental, enable in Options) • Built-in rules and a local score cache keep AI calls and cost low GETTING STARTED 1. Open DevTools (F12) and go to the Elements panel. 2. Open the "Jev Locate" tab in the sidebar next to Styles. With narrow DevTools it may be under », and you can drag it forward. 3. Select any element. Optional: add your TypeSafe API key in the extension's Options (click the toolbar icon) to enable Jev AI scoring. Without a key, Jev Locate uses built-in heuristics. PERMISSIONS & PRIVACY Jev Locate has no content scripts and no access to the websites you browse: it works only on the page you are inspecting in DevTools, while you use its pane. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you add your own TypeSafe API key; then only the inspected element's attribute names/values, class names and short text snippets (and those of a few surrounding elements) plus the page's host name are sent to the TypeSafe API for scoring. Your key and settings stay on your device. No analytics, no tracking. Jev Locate is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by TypeSafe.
