Overview

Copy selected GitHub lines as a stable, commit-pinned Markdown citation.

GitHub Code Citation turns a line or line range selected on a GitHub file page into one descriptive Markdown link pinned to the exact commit currently displayed. Use it when writing code reviews, issues, documentation, technical notes, incident reports, or research that must keep pointing to the same code after a branch changes. How it works: 1. Open a file on GitHub. 2. Click a line number, or Shift-click another line number to select a range. 3. Click Copy stable citation. 4. Paste the ready-to-use Markdown link wherever you need it. The output includes the repository, file path, selected lines, and a URL containing the exact 40-character commit identifier. If the exact commit cannot be proven from the current page, the extension does not offer a mutable fallback. Privacy and scope: - Runs only on GitHub file-view URLs. - No GitHub API, account token, analytics, storage, advertising, or remote service. - Repository, path, commit, and selected-line metadata are processed locally in the current tab. - The citation is written to the clipboard only after an explicit click. GitHub Code Citation does one narrow job: make stable code references fast and unambiguous.
