Overview

Adds an "Add co-authors" button to the GitHub merge box that credits PR participants, using your own GitHub authentication.

Give credit to everyone who worked on a pull request. GitHub Co-Authors Generator adds an "Add co-authors" button under the commit message in the merge box of GitHub pull requests. One click collects the people who took part and appends Co-authored-by: trailers to the extended description, so they are credited in the merge commit and on their GitHub profiles. ## WHO GETS CREDITED (you choose on the settings page): - Commit authors, plus co-authors already listed in their commits - Reviewers and review commenters - Conversation commenters - Optionally, the pull request author - A list of accounts you never want credited Bots (Dependabot, GitHub Actions, Copilot…), automation commits, deleted accounts and common service accounts are skipped. People already listed in the description are not added twice, so clicking again is safe. ## YOUR OWN GITHUB AUTHENTICATION Sign in with GitHub or paste a personal access token to get 5,000 API requests per hour instead of the shared anonymous limit of 60. Requests go straight from your browser to api.github.com. There is no third-party server, no analytics and no tracking. Works with private repositories when your token allows it. ## HOW TO USE 1. On a pull request, click "Merge pull request" or "Squash and merge". 2. Click "Add co-authors". 3. Review the description and confirm the merge.
