GitHub AI Assistant adds an AI-powered sidebar to any GitHub repository page. Click the floating button to instantly analyze any repo — get structured summaries, explore the tech stack, and chat with AI about the codebase. FEATURES • One-click repo summaries: what it does, key features, tech stack, and architecture • AI chat: ask questions like "Is this production ready?" or "Would this fit my use case?" • File context: load project files (package.json, Dockerfile, configs) to give the AI deeper understanding • Private repo support: add a GitHub token to analyze private repositories • Works on every GitHub repository page with automatic detection HOW IT WORKS 1. Navigate to any GitHub repository 2. Click the purple floating button (bottom-right corner) 3. Generate a summary or start chatting with AI about the repo 4. Optionally load project files in the Files tab for richer, more accurate answers SETUP You need your own OpenAI API key (get one at platform.openai.com/api-keys). Enter it in the Settings tab. Your key is stored locally and only sent to OpenAI — never collected or shared. PRIVACY & SECURITY • Your API key never touches the web page — it stays in the background service worker • All secrets stored in sandboxed Chrome extension storage • No data collection, no analytics, no third-party tracking • Only communicates with api.openai.com and api.github.com over HTTPS • Full privacy policy included SUPPORTED MODELS GPT-4o Mini (default), GPT-4o, GPT-4.1 Mini, GPT-4.1, o4-mini PERMISSIONS • activeTab: detect GitHub repository pages • storage: save your API key and preferences locally • github.com: inject the sidebar UI • api.github.com: fetch README, metadata, and files • api.openai.com: send prompts for AI analysis
