Gitary Companion lets you open any GitHub repository in Gitary with a single click, so you can read code and take notes in a focused, Git-based workspace. Gitary (formerly GitNote) is a web app that combines a code viewer and a powerful Markdown note‑taking environment, built directly on top of your Git repositories. This extension makes the jump from GitHub to Gitary effortless. What you can do with Gitary Companion: Open the current GitHub repository in Gitary by clicking the extension icon. Right‑click on any GitHub page or repository link and choose “Open this repository in Gitary”. Quickly switch from browsing code on GitHub to a richer reading and note‑taking experience in Gitary. How it works: The extension reads the URL of the current tab or the clicked link. If it looks like a GitHub repository (https://github.com/owner/repo), it opens a new tab pointing to Gitary with the correct ?openRepo=... parameter. Gitary then automatically detects the repository and opens it in your Gitary workspace. Permissions explained: tabs / activeTab: used only to read the current tab’s URL so we can build the Gitary link. contextMenus: used to add the “Open this repository in Gitary” item to the right‑click menu on GitHub pages and links. notifications: used to show a small message if you click the icon on a page that is not a GitHub repository. Privacy: The extension does not collect, store, or send any personal data or code content. All logic runs locally in your browser and only uses the URL of the page or link you interact with. If you use GitHub and Gitary together, this extension saves you time and makes it much easier to move from browsing a repository to working with it in a dedicated reading and note‑taking environment.
