The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is the tallest land animal on Earth, known for its long neck, unique spotted coat, and gentle nature. Native to Africa, giraffes roam the savannas and open woodlands, where they feed on leaves from tall trees, especially acacias. With a height of up to 5.5 meters (18 feet), giraffes use their long necks and prehensile tongues to reach food that other herbivores cannot. Despite their size, they are surprisingly fast, capable of running at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph) when escaping predators like lions. Giraffes are social animals, living in loose herds for protection. However, habitat loss and poaching have led to a decline in their populations. Conservation efforts aim to protect these magnificent creatures, ensuring they continue to roam the African plains for generations to come.
