gh-prism: Sectioned Pull Request Review
Overview
Review GitHub pull requests one part at a time. Sorts changed files into Implementation, Tests, Docs, Config, and Generated.
gh-prism sorts a GitHub pull request's changed files into sections, so you can review one part at a time. AI-assisted pull requests often look huge when only a small part of them is implementation. gh-prism puts every changed file under Implementation, Tests, Docs & Comments, Config, or Generated / lockfiles, so you can review the code that matters first and skim the rest. No account, no token, no setup. gh-prism reads through your signed-in GitHub session and talks to no server but GitHub. Sections in a sidebar • Replaces the file tree on Files changed with a sidebar that sorts files into five sections, each with its file count and lines changed. • A file whose changes belong in more than one section is listed under each, marked Partial. • Comment-only changes count toward Docs & Comments, so a reworded comment doesn't pass for a code change. • The diffs follow the sidebar's order, and clicking a section's heading collapses it. Lines changed by section • The header's lines-changed count splits into one count per section, on Files changed, Conversation, Commits, and Checks, and on commit pages. • Click the counts to switch to GitHub's total and back. Viewed tracking • Files you've marked Viewed are dimmed, and each section's heading counts them (3/4), so you always know what's left. • Tick a row's checkbox, or Alt-click the row (Option-click on macOS). It stays in step with GitHub's own Viewed toggle. Code owners • Hover a file's shield to see who owns it, or click it for details. • Show only one owner's files with "Only files owned by…" in the filter menu. • On the Conversation tab, each reviewer's shield lists the changed files they own. Conversation panel • On Files changed, press Shift+\ to open the pull request's Conversation tab in a panel, and read or reply without leaving the diffs. • Pin it as a resizable column beside the diffs, or let it float and close it with Esc. Commit pages • A long commit message renders as Markdown in a resizable column beside the diffs. • Older and Newer links step through the history. Press Shift+J and Shift+K to move without the mouse. Keyboard shortcuts • j and k: next and previous file, in the sidebar's order • \: collapse or expand the file tree • Shift+\: open or close the Conversation panel • Shift+J and Shift+K: older and newer commit Before you start gh-prism runs on GitHub's new Files changed page, whose URL ends in /pull/<number>/changes. If your pull requests still open the classic page (ending in /files), turn on GitHub's preview: click your profile picture, then Feature preview, then New Files Changed Experience, then Enable. gh-prism explains this in a dialog on the classic page too. Privacy gh-prism sees only what your GitHub account can already see. It has no servers, no analytics, and no tracking. It syncs a few preferences, such as which side the sidebar sits on, through Chrome. Everything else stays on your computer. Click "Report a miscategorized file" beside the file tree's filter button to open a prefilled issue.
